Turbine flow meter is one of the popular and simple flow measurement methods. Turbine flow meters are commonly used to measure liquids, including chemicals and water, but they also measure gases.
Electromagnetic flow meter are more commonly used for water measurement. There are a variety of turbine flow meters that are even ideal for measuring beverage or beer dispensing.
The freely rotating magnetic rotor rotates as the fluid passes through it and generates small voltage pulses in the magnetic coil sensor mounted on the wall of the flow meter body. The rotational speed of the rotor and the frequency of the generated voltage pulses are proportional to the flow rate. Due to magnetic drag at low speeds, the turbine's turndown range is usually limited to about 10:1.
As with all flow meters, care should be taken to ensure that the turbine flow meter is the correct choice for the required load. Despite its many advantages, the turbine has an Achilles' heel: it is very sensitive to changes in the viscosity of the liquid. If the viscosity of the metered liquid changes, possibly due to changes in temperature, this will have an impact on both the number of pulses generated per liter and the linear operating flow range. These changes will ultimately manifest as increased measurement error.
Typically, turbines can be used with liquids with operating viscosities up to around 10 mPas, where the full 10:1 flow range is required, or up to 50 mPas when the flow meter is operated at a fixed flow rate (typically in batch processes). Coriolis flow meters measure mass flow with an accuracy that is not affected by changes in fluid density or flow distribution.
Turbine Flow MeterOften referred to as the "main" element in a flow measurement system. Its output signal is fed to an "auxiliary" device that interprets the pulses and gives a meaningful display of flow, totals, and other variables.
Since these flow meters are very small in size and weight, they are often used as portable test equipment. They can be equipped with a complete, battery-powered flow indicator/totalizer, such as the Model FTR-1600D, and placed in a Peli box in the trunk of the car.
Turbine flow meter offer great flexibility and can provide flow measurement solutions at very affordable prices. They are used in a variety of different liquid and gas industries. Typical applications for turbine flow meters include hygienic mixing and batch control in dairies, breweries and food manufacturing, tank truck loading, gas measurement, water and wastewater measurement, fuel consumption monitoring and cryogenic precision measurement. They are easy to install and maintain, and provide convenient signal outputs that are compatible with a variety of flow instruments.
DOWESTON's range of high-precision turbine flow meter include hygienic flow meter for the food and pharmaceutical industries, corrosion-resistant stainless steel flow meter for hazardous fluids, and gas turbine flow meter.
Every new turbine flow meter supplied by DOWESTON comes with a calibration certificate. Over time, the output signal (pulses per liter) will change slightly due to wear. Therefore, we recommend returning the turbine to us for overhaul and recalibration after one to two years of service. We provide specialized flow meter repair and calibration services. Flow meters can be returned for repair or overhaul and our dedicated, certified in-house calibration facilities can recalibrate most types of flow meters, including turbine flow meters, when required and issue a new calibration certificate.
