Vortex flow meter is a commonly used flow meter. Its principle is to use the Vortex generated by the Vortex to measure fluid flow. The following is a comprehensive analysis of the Vortex flow meter, including its principle, structure, working method, application range, advantages and disadvantages, etc.

principle

The working principle of the Vortex flow meter is based on the Kemen-Starry formula, that is, when the fluid passes through a fixed object, it will form alternating shedding vortices behind it, and its frequency is proportional to the fluid flow rate. The Vortex flow meter uses this principle to place a Vortex sensor installed in the pipeline into the fluid. When the fluid passes through, the Vortex will be impacted by the fluid to generate a Vortex. By measuring the frequency and amplitude of the Vortex vibration, the flow rate of the fluid can be calculated.

Structure

Vortex flow meter consists of two parts: flow sensor and signal processor. The flow sensor usually consists of a Vortex blade fixed on the central axis of the pipe. The Vortex blade forms an appropriate angle with the inner wall of the pipe, so that the fluid can generate a Vortex when it passes. The signal processor is responsible for measuring the frequency and amplitude of the Vortex vibration and converting it into the corresponding flow value.

Working method

The working method of the Vortex flow meter is relatively simple, and its process is as follows:

(1) When the fluid passes through the Vortex blades, vortices will be generated, and the number of vortices is proportional to the fluid flow rate;

(2) The Vortex blades vibrate under the action of Vortex;

(3) The Vortex sensor detects and measures the frequency and amplitude of Vortex vibration;

(4) The signal processor converts the frequency and amplitude measured by the Vortex sensor into flow values.

Application scope

Vortex flow meters are suitable for flow measurement of most liquids and gases, especially applications in high temperature, high pressure or corrosive media. It is widely used in flow measurement in petrochemical, electric power, steel, chemical industry, water conservancy and other fields.

Vortex flow meters can measure the flow of various media such as liquids and gases. Common liquid media include water, petroleum, acid and alkali solutions, etc.; common gas media include natural gas, coal gas, air, etc. Vortex flow meters are suitable for flow measurement in industrial production. They can measure within a wide range of temperature, pressure, viscosity, etc., and have the characteristics of high precision, good linearity, and high stability.

However, Vortex flow meter also have some limitations. For example, if the temperature, pressure, etc. of the medium exceed the rated range of the flow meter, it will affect the accuracy of the measurement. In addition, the Vortex flow meter may also affect the measurement results for liquid media containing particulate matter or high viscosity. Therefore, when selecting a Vortex flow meter, it is necessary to make a selection based on the actual medium properties and process requirements, and strictly control and manage its use conditions.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Vortex flow meterAdvantagesMainly include:

(1) High accuracy, reaching 1% or higher;

(2) High reliability and stability, no drift or leakage during long-term use;

(3) Strong adaptability and suitable for various liquids.

(4) Able to measure flow in a wide range and with a wide measurement range;

(5) No moving parts, not easily affected by media dirt or particles, simple maintenance, and long service life;

(6) It also has certain applicability to special media such as high temperature, high pressure, high viscosity, and corrosive liquids.

However, there are also some Vortex flow meterDisadvantages:

(1) The measurement at low speed and low flow is not very accurate, and the measurement error may be large;

(2) Because the structure of the Vortex flow meter is relatively complex, the price is higher;

(3) For liquids with higher viscosity, problems such as insufficient fluid rotation and fluid stuck may occur, resulting in inaccurate measurement;

(4) For the measurement of non-liquid media such as gases, additional processing and calibration are required, and different models or special sensors may need to be used.

Vortex flow meters have excellent performance in many aspects, but they also need to be selected based on actual use needs.
