Turbine flow meters are velocity flow meters.

The principle is to calculate the liquid flow rate by measuring the impeller speed based on the relationship between the impeller speed and the liquid flow rate.

Since the principles are similar, why are there differences between liquid turbine flow meter and gas flow meter? Can liquid turbine flow meters be used to measure gases?

The answer is no, because the density of gas is much smaller than the density of liquid, so there are obvious structural differences between gas turbine flow meter and liquid turbine flow meter.

The impeller fluid structure is different:

The core structure of the liquid turbine flow meter is an intuitive, bearing-free system suitable for low flow media. The impeller speed is 1000rpm, and the stable flow rate of liquid medium is 0.5-3ms.

The gas turbine flow meter has a complex structure and excellent bearing system, and is suitable for high flow media. The impeller speed needs to exceed 15,000 rpm, and the normal flow rate of the gas medium is 5-40ms.

At the same time, they have different shunt systems.

Liquid turbine flow meter core gas test:

The gas test medium of the liquid turbine rotates at high speed, causing the impeller to wear and break.

The sensors are also different:

Gas density is slightly affected by changes in temperature and pressure. Therefore, in the measurement of gas volume flow, a gas turbine flow meter with temperature and pressure compensation functions is usually used to achieve accurate measurement of the gas medium. When measuring volume flow, the turbine flow meter must track the temperature and pressure of the gas medium, and convert the volume flow under different working conditions into the volume flow under standard conditions (P=101.325kpa t=273.15k). Liquid turbine flow meter do not need to account for changes in temperature and pressure.

Because atmospheric pressure will affect measurement results and trade settlements. The selection of gas turbine flow meter sensors has a certain impact on the measurement accuracy of the flow meter.

Gas turbine sensors from conventional manufacturers use inevitable pressure compensation, while low-end manufacturers use high-cost gauge pressure compensation.

Here we know what gauge pressure and necessary pressure are:

Absolute pressure definition: The absolute pressure value starts from absolute vacuum, and the symbol is PAbs.

"Gage pressure definition: pipeline pressure and operating pressure. "Gage pressure" starts from atmospheric pressure and has the symbol pg.

The relationship between inevitable pressure and gauge pressure: absolute pressure = gauge pressure + local atmospheric pressure

Standard conditions = working conditions * (gauge pressure + local atmospheric pressure)
