Leak testing is a standard procedure for checking the leak integrity of a variety of industrial products, such as automotive parts, industrial valves, and medical equipment. Among the various leak testing technologies available on the market, flow and pressure based measurement methods are typically used to test for leaks above 0.1 sccm (standard cubic centimeters per minute). There are two ways to measure flow. First, a mass flow sensor or mass flow meter can be used directly to measure the mass flow of a gas (usually industrial air or helium) escaping due to a leak. Secondly, measurements can be made indirectly by supporting filling of the part under test and subsequently measuring the pressure drop (pressure decay test).
