FTW-1600 thermal mass flow meterIdeal for measuring flash evaporation and work loss from emissions from oil and gas atmospheric storage tanks.
Atmospheric storage tank
Atmospheric storage tanks are large underground vessels that contain oil or natural gas condensate, often used in the production of oil and natural gas. Vented tank emissions are primarily volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are considered hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). Environmental authorities and regulatory agencies may require emissions to be quantified and reported. In addition, according to the requirements of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on VOC emissions, tank ventilation conditions for greenhouse gas emissions need to be reported.

Flickering, loss of work and loss of breathing can produce emissions. Direct measurement of vented vapor using a thermal mass flow meter provides an accurate method of quantifying emissions.
Flicker loss
Flash gas is produced when there is a drop in pressure or an increase in temperature in a gas or liquid stream. Flash emissions from gas storage tanks may occur at compressor stations, gas plants, pigging, storage tanks or wellheads.
Job loss
Work loss is the discharge due to changes in liquid level within the tank. When the tank is filled, the vapor inside the tank is expelled and flows out of the vent. Typical locations include wellheads, storage tanks and liquid handling facilities.
Loss of breathing
Breathing losses occur when steam is expelled from the tank due to changes in pressure and/or temperature. They also include vapors from evaporation of liquids in storage tanks.
VOC emission measurement
Thermal mass flow meters measure discharge flow directly without the need for additional temperature or pressure instrumentation. Due to the low-end sensitivity and wide turndown of the FTW-1600 Thermal Mass Flow Meter instrument, the FTW-1600 Thermal Mass Flow Meter can accurately measure very low velocities (as low as 5 SFPM) at low pressures, making it very efficient at measuring low emissions-related flow rates. These direct mass flow meters offer high accuracy and repeatability with negligible pressure drop.
