Background: A petrochemical company produces a large amount of hydrogen during the production process, and part of the hydrogen is used for on-site fuel needs. However, the amount of hydrogen generated is unstable and sometimes is greater than the on-site demand. In order to improve resource utilization, reduce costs and reduce environmental pollution, the company decided to adopt a hydrogen recovery and reuse system to ensure that hydrogen-using equipment always obtains a stable supply of hydrogen while safely discharging excess hydrogen.
Solution: The hydrogen recovery and reuse system mainly includes the following parts:
1. Diverter valve: Install a diverter valve at the outlet of the hydrogen production equipment to divide the hydrogen flow into two parts. One part flows directly into the hydrogen equipment, and the other part flows into the storage tank or safety discharge system.
2.Hydrogen flow control valve: Install flow control valves at the two outlets of the diverter valve to regulate the flow of hydrogen into hydrogen equipment and storage tanks. This ensures that the hydrogen plant always receives up to 5 Nm³/h of hydrogen.
3. Controllers and sensors: Use flow sensors to monitor hydrogen flow. The controller can automatically adjust the opening of the flow control valve based on sensor data to ensure a stable supply of hydrogen.
4. Storage tank and safety discharge system: When the output of the hydrogen production equipment exceeds 5 Nm³/h, the excess hydrogen can flow into the storage tank or be discharged into the atmosphere through the safety discharge system.
5. Mechanical pressure relief valve: Install a mechanical pressure relief valve at the storage tank or safety discharge system to ensure the safe discharge of hydrogen when the pressure exceeds the safe range.
After the system is put into operation, the hydrogen recovery and utilization rate of petrochemical enterprises has been significantly improved while reducing the impact on the environment. Through real-time monitoring and control, the system ensures precise diversion of hydrogen between hydrogen equipment and storage tanks, meeting on-site needs while ensuring safe operation of the system.
